On site SEO
On site SEO takes place within the code and textual content of a website and is carried out by a web designer for a small business.
Initial on site SEO takes place in the build process of a businesses website. What I do is prepare a plan with the business finding out who their customers are and what products and services they are selling. Next, I use Google analytics to see what key words and phrases people are searching for in relation to their customer base and business sector.
With this customer and client information I will tailor the content, title tag, header tags, meta data, and alt tags around these key words. Often with a small business it is good practice to target searches that are less popular as you are more likely to be higher up on a niche search result. Another good practice is to be location specific with your business by targeting a town, city or county. For example, it would not be viable for a small business to target a popular search result such as alloy wheels. Instead they should target alloy wheels and their area. With niche products it is fine to target those key words.
SEO is big business and larger companies can spend many thousands on SEO to ensure they are near the top of a search result. For a small business it is important to carry out SEO targeted at their niche.
